Next up is the T-6 Texan. This aircraft has made appearances on this blog before. Last year, there were 8 of them at Willow Run. This year, they had a couple in Navy regalia. Because it is such a non-descript aircraft, it will often get painted to look like planes of other nations. For example, many of the Japanese planes in Tora! Tora! Tora! were Texans painted to look like Japanese planes.
The Texan first flew in 1935 and was built as a basic combat aircraft. However, it ended up being used as an advanced trainer because it was pretty easy to fly.
The plane was used in World War II as a trainer.
During the Korean and Vietnam Wars, some of the planes were converted to Forward Air Controllers. Many of our allies used these planes as well. A version of it is being developed to be used as an Counter Insurgency Aircraft.
